WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A former secretary of a Wilkes-Barre Catholic school has been sentenced to five years of probation for her conviction on forgery charges.

Fifty-one-year-old Michele Hivish of Wilkes-Barre pleaded guilty in September to forging checks totaling nearly $50,000 over five years from several bank accounts of St. Aloysius Elementary School.

Hivish must spend five years in an intermediate punishment program, pay more than $49,000 in restitution, maintain full-time employment and remain under house arrest for 90 days.

Hivish turned herself in to police in February after investigators noticed the missing cash. She was fired after admitting she stole the funds by forging checks with the signatures of St. Aloysius' former principal and former school pastor.
