	Meredith Priest Jailed on Child Porn Charges By Joel Cresswell Geelong Advertiser October 24, 2008 http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2008/10/24/26325_news.html BREAKING NEWS A FORMER Meredith priest who kept images of a boy masturbating has been held in custody ahead of sentencing next month. Edmund John Haines has pleaded guilty to six counts of an indecent act with a child under 16, procurement of a minor for child pornography and possessing child porn. The crimes occurred in Bannockburn, Winchelsea and Geelong between March 2006 and February 2008. Geelong County Court heard today Haines pulled down the pants of a 15-year-old boy to take photos and fondle his genitals on multiple occasions. Brian Bourke, for Haines, called four character witnesses who described Haines as a respected man who had devoted his adult life to the Catholic church. But Judge Geoffrey Chettle said Haines was treated like "royalty" in his parish and used that respect as a vehicle for the crimes. Haines will be sentenced in Geelong on November 4.
