More Details in Sexual Abuse Case against Priest Revealed in Trial Chicago Sun-Times October 14, 2008 http://www.suntimes.com/news/24-7/1220478,sexual-abuse-priest-101408.article As his confessor, the Rev. Donald McGuire allegedly told a 15-year-old boy he needed to be counseled on his masturbation. To adequately do it, McGuire had a suggestion. “Put off masturbating on my own and do so later in the evening when he was present,” John, now 32, testified Tuesday in federal court. Identified only by his first name, John worked as a personal assistant to McGuire, traveling extensively with him. John said he twice masturbated while in bed beside McGuire. “At his request?” asked Assistant U.S. Attorney April Perry. “At his encouragement,” John said. “He did encourage me in imagining what it would be like making love to someone else.” Another time, he said McGuire pinched him “very hard,” as he masturbated. “It was simulating being bitten by someone I was making love to,” John testified McGuire told him at the time. McGuire, 78, now defrocked, is accused of taking children across state lines to sexually abuse them. John is the fourth witness to testify to inappropriate sexual encounters with the once world-renowned Jesuit priest. Prosecutors say McGuire recruited young male personal assistants, and after gaining their trust as a confessor, lured them into his bedroom. That’s where he allegedly had them massage his entire body, including his genitals. McGuire is charged with abusing a 13-year-old boy who testified last week the priest performed oral sex on him. John said McGuire, with whom he traveled to India, Russia, Poland and elsewhere, urged him to sleep in the same bed. After that, McGuire allegedly ridiculed John’s sleepwear, saying he was overdressed. John testified that McGuire continued urging him to shed clothes during what became nightly massages, explaining that he would only get oil on them. By the time the massages became routine, John said he was giving them naked. The government could rest its case Wednesday. |
