DeLAND – A former pastor and DeLand-Weldon English teacher has been sentenced to two years of probation for possessing child pornography.

On Monday, Associate Judge James Coryell sentenced Randy L. DeJaynes, 57, who listed an address in Forsyth, to two years of probation. He must also complete sex offender treatment, pay restitution and fines totaling $12,945, pay a $200 DNA fee and register as a sex offender.

DeJaynes pleaded guilty in August to one count of possessing child pornography.

DeJaynes, also a former pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Decatur, agreed to give up the computer seized by police from his Forsyth home in February 2007.

On Wednesday morning, Piatt County Circuit Judge John Shonkwiler dismissed separate charges of aggravated battery and criminal sexual abuse stemming from DeJaynes' alleged conduct with male students while a teacher at DeLand-Weldon High School in Piatt County.

"There was a much stronger case for conviction with the Macon County charges than the charges we had here in Piatt County," said Piatt County State's Attorney Leonard Rumery. He said the charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

According to a police report, DeJaynes gave a teen boy at DeLand-Weldon High School a digital camera and provided the boy with snacks at school in exchange for photos of the boy sent by e-mail.

As part of the plea agreement, three other counts of child pornography were dismissed.

DeJaynes resigned as DeLand-Weldon English teacher in April 2007.
