(WABC) - Police say a man who claims to be a rabbi accused of having sex with minors was arrested at his Monsey home Monday morning. Authorities say 58-year-old Israel Weingarten was accused in a five-count federal indictment of travel with intent to engage in illegal sexual conduct with a minor. Weingarten, who is a member of of the Satmar sect, was arrested by FBI agents. He could face life in prison if convicted. Weingarten, who claims to be a rabbi, is accused of sexually abusing with his daughter more than a decade ago. She is now over 18. He is also accused to traveling abroad, to Belgium and Israel, to have sex with minors.
