(CBS)- Serious charges have been levied against the pastor of a New Jersey church. Bishop George Benbow is accused of sexually abusing several young girls. Parishioners are stunned by his arrest. He has been the pastor of the Christian Fellowship Gospel Church in Plainfield for decades and is married with children. But the prosecutor said Benbow abused six girls inside his church and in his own home during the past seven years. "They were all allegedly 9 years old when these events occurred," Union County prosecutor Ted Romankow said. One father said his daughter was a victim. "He would sit the kids on his lap," said the father, whose identity CBS 2 HD is protecting. He said Benbow inappropriately touched his daughter four years ago when she was 12. "Our daughter came forth and told us what happened, not only to her but three more kids with her," the father said. The 56-year-old pastor has been charged with four counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. No one answered the door Wednesday at his home behind the church. Parishioners and friends said they're shocked. "Since I was born I was in this church," Sharika Pleasant said. "I never had a problem with him ever, anything like that. He's a mentor of mine." Added Robert Freeman: "I just don't believe that. I don't believe that. I think they set him up." "He's a good father, a good husband," said Gwendlyn Brown. Romankow said he's building a serious case against Benbow. "I know the six victims have all been cooperating," Romankow said. If you believe you have additional information on this case the Union County prosecutor is asking you to call his office. Benbow is being held at the Union County Jail on $150,000 bail.
