MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Tennessee appeals court has dismissed a sex abuse lawsuit against the Catholic Diocese in Memphis.

The suit was filed two years ago by a 37-year-old man — identified only as John Doe — who said he was sexually abused when he was a teenager by the Rev. Daniel DuPree, who was a priest at Church of the Resurrection, in Memphis.

The lawsuit sought $10 million and accused the Catholic Diocese of failing to properly supervise a priest with a history of sex abuse complaints.

The Tennessee Court of Appeals rejected the suit in a ruling released Tuesday, saying it was filed almost 20 years too late.

The abuse allegedly occurred in the 1980s, and the appeals court said the suit should have been filed within a year of the teenager's 18th birthday in 1987.
