A teenage boy who was sexually abused by disgraced Catholic priest Daniel McCormack settled his lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Chicago for $2.5 million Thursday.

The 14-year-old was 12 when the abuse took place at Our Lady of the Westside School in Chicago.

The boy was one of five victims McCormack admitted he molested when he pleaded guilty in July 2007.

"In any case I've been involved in, and to my knowledge, this is the largest settlement of an individual case against the archdiocese," said Ken Cunniff, the teen's lawyer.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Burritt couldn't confirm Cunniff's claim of the settlement being the largest, but the archdiocese did confirm the agreement.

"It has long been the practice of the archdiocese to reach out to victims and attempt to resolve their claims without burdening them with the stresses of an extended legal process. We remain committed to resolving sexual abuse cases in a way that results in a prompt and fair settlement for the victims and their families," an archdiocese statement read.

McCormack, 39, was sentenced to five years in prison last year and is now locked up in Downstate Jacksonville.
