The suit is filed by a former altar boy who alleges he was sexually abused in the 1970s by Rev. Raymond Kownacki, now a retired priest. He also alleges the Belleville Diocese covered it up. The case is one of the area's first to go to trial against the Catholic church, and could compel testimony from some high ranking church officials, including former Belleville Bishop Wilton Gregory, now the archbishop of Atlanta.
