Attorneys for Clergy Sex Victims Release Predators' Addresses Goal Is to 'Alert Neighbors, Warn Parents and Protect Kids,' They Say Market Watch August 14, 2008 http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/attorneys-clergy-sex-victims-release/story.aspx?guid={DE425989-D845-4632-8FA4-0C9F77BA5B18}&dist=hppr CHICAGO, Aug 14, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- For the sake of 'public safety,' attorneys who negotiated a settlement with the Chicago Catholic archdiocese this week are making public the last known addresses of 8 current and former priests who molested kids, as well as 1 former Catholic school principal also named in the settlement. "The victims we've helped have told us time and time again that their main goal is to make sure other children don't suffer as they have and still do," said Jeff Anderson of St. Paul MN. "This step will hopefully prevent future devastating child sex crimes." Anderson and his firm have represented hundreds of sex abuse victims who were hurt in church and school settings. Anderson said he had intended to release the addresses soon but was prodded by a news conference held yesterday by a support group called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. "SNAP members stressed that more needs to be done to protect vulnerable children right now, and that some of these child molesting clergymen live among unsuspecting neighbors and could well be grooming or molesting kids today," Anderson said. "So we wanted to get this information out to the public as quickly as possible." Anderson will post what he believes is the most current contact information for the men named in the settlement on his website at http://www.andersonadvocates.com shortly. He can also provide the information at reporters' request at 651 227 9990 or 612 817 8665. The information being released today was compiled based upon available public records. Anderson does not guarantee the accuracy of the information, as addresses and phone numbers may have changed and may not be reflected in public records. All of the men are believed to reside in the greater Chicago area, except for Daniel McCormack and Norbert Maday. McCormack is serving a prison sentence in Western Illinois for his sexual abuse of five children. Maday was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for the sexual abuse of multiple children. He remains in custody of the State of Wisconsin pending an involuntary civil commitment of a sexually violent person proceeding. |
