	Anglican Church to Vote on Priest Sex Offender Laws ABC Brisbane June 21, 2008 http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/21/2281752.htm?site=brisbane The Anglican church in Brisbane is expected to vote today on major changes to the way it deals with clergy convicted of child sex abuse. The Diocese of Brisbane is holding its annual Synnod this weekend and a vote is to be taken on amending church law on professional standards. Archbishop Phillip Aspinall says currently in Queensland if a priest is convicted of child abuse there is a separate church process to decide if they should be expelled from the clergy. He says the church will now vote on a motion to abolish that second process. "If it is passed the effect will be that someone convicted of a child sexual offence could be automatically removed as a priest forever, without there needing to be any other formal process other than allowing the convicted person to put forward their case," he said.
