Sect Leader Says Teen Released by State KOB June 17, 2008 http://kob.com/article/stories/S480416.shtml?cat=504 CLAYTON, N.M. (AP) - The leader of an apocalyptic sect who fasted to force the state to release a teenager taken from the group's compound near Clayton says the state has released the girl to her parents.
Wayne Bent - who is accused of sex crimes against underage female followers - posted a note on the group's Web site saying the girl, whom he identified as Willow, was released Tuesday. Bent, who heads The Lord Our Righteousness Church, began a fast June 6 but wrote Tuesday he will end it when he sees the girl's face. The 67-year-old sect leader, who calls himself Michael Travesser, has been indicted on two counts each of criminal sexual contact of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He denies anyone was molested. |
