HIGH POINT -- A local businessman and deacon is facing numerous sex charges.
Detectives arrested 65-year-old Guy Ellis Carr Jr. Thursday at his business. While the number of sex charges – 32 – may be surprising to some, Carr's employees say they're even more shocked he's the suspect.

"He's my employer, and like I say for 20 years he's treated me good, he's treated all his employees good," one employee said.
Carr was taken into custody for various offenses detectives say began in 1973 and continued until 1981. Carr faces 13 counts of indecent liberties with a child, another 13 of crimes against nature, three counts of statutory rape, and three more sexual offense charges.
"The investigation was very thorough, was very detailed, and took about a month," said Lt. Steve Myers of the High Point Police Department.
Carr is a deacon at Emerywood Baptist Church. While police officials won't say if Carr committed any crimes there, Emerywood senior pastor Bob Ferguson told News 14 Carolina Friday the church is not involved in the investigation.
"It is involving one victim," said Myers, but investigators won't comment on that victim's age at the time of the incidents.
Details in the investigation are few, including how police were alerted to the case. But Myers says the length of time doesn't diminish the seriousness of the charges.
"It just takes a while for the investigators to find witnesses, find any evidence that is old," he explained.
Carr is in the Guilford County jail under $1 million bond. There's no word on when he'll make his first court appearance.
