DA Charles Hynes on Thursday announced the conviction of Dieuvais (Doov-WAH') Surin (SUR'-in), a pastor in the Original Church of God of Prophesy. Surin could face up to 56 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 9. The child, who attended Surin's church, was abused in 1998 and 1999. Sometimes, he waited outside her school and then abused her in his van. Surin, who is 72, was convicted on 13 counts of criminal sex act and nine counts of sexual abuse.
