Father John Benedict Corrigan, 71, was extradited from the Irish Republic to the UK to face justice for sexually abusing three boys and a girl. At Newcastle Crown Court, the retired clergyman admitted indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl nearly 40 years ago. At an earlier hearing he had also pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent assault on boys between 1967 and 1972. They were aged between eight and 13. The pensioner, of Westport, Co Mayo, was brought back to England last year after an extradition hearing in Dublin. Judge David Hodson, the Recorder of Newcastle upon Tyne, released the priest on bail to an address in Newcastle and told him to return to court on Tuesday for sentence. Known as Fr Ben, Corrigan worked in parishes across Tyneside and County Durham in the 1960s and 1970s.
