	Bond Lowered for N.M. Sect Leader Accused of Sex Crimes ABC 13 May 8, 2008 http://www.wlos.com/template/inews_wire/wires.national/39d7c52c-www.wlos.com.shtml CLAYTON, N.M. — A New Mexico judge has reduced the bond set for the leader of an apocalyptic sect. Wayne Bent is accused of sex crimes against minors. A county magistrate cut Bent's bond from half a-million dollars to $50,000, but rejected his request to be released on his own recognizance. Bent has been returned to jail, where authorities say he has refused to eat or drink since his arrest two days ago. Bent goes by the name of Michael Travesser and claims to be the Messiah. He is accused of touching three underage female followers when the lay naked with him. One of the girls was 12 at the time. Bent has been assigned a public defender. She tried to enter a not-guilty plea today, but the judge said that would come at a preliminary hearing to be held within 10 days.
