These victims are large in number and are not going away. Indeed, they are holding the Holy Father to his words. Words alone, however, are never enough. Child sexual abuse at the hands of a religious leader is a betrayal not only physically and emotionally, but a spiritual devastation as well. Many such victims will never recover. Such long-term, widespread abuse requires a long-term, widespread and specific plan of action. Polly Franks, Executive Director of the Franks Foundation, is calling upon religious leaders of all faiths to thoroughly investigate every allegation of child physical and sexual abuse within their schools and houses of worship. There should be no safer place in this world for children than within the walls of God's house. Anything else is intolerable.
