Montreal's Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Desperate Need of Cash By Catherine Sherriffs CJAD April 12, 2008 http://www.cjad.com/news/565/698534 A special fundraising campaign is being launched by the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Montreal today. Special collections will be taken in all parishes, in the hopes of raising $2,000,000 to keep Montreal's struggling religious communities alive. Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte says the fundraiser is desperately needed, due to a decline in church-attendance, fewer clergy members, and the increasing cost of keeping churches open. English-speaking parishes in particular are in danger of closing, with Roman Catholics belonging to those churches losing 25% of their parishes, and one third of their priests. This is the 20th annual fundraising campaign, and runs until April 27th. |
