CHARLOTTE -- A former area priest who was arrested earlier this month in New Jersey for sex crimes against a Charlotte teen nearly 10 years ago was booked into the Mecklenburg County jail Sunday morning.

The Rev. Robert Yurgel, 43, was a former parish priest at St. Matthew Catholic Church in south Charlotte. He is charged with five counts of indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of statutory rape.
Investigators say all of the incidents occurred in 1999.
U.S. marshals arrested Yurgel last week at his current church in New Jersey.
