Survivors Group Urges Yakima Bishop to Skip Pope's Visit Associated Press, carried in Montanas News Station April 10, 2008 http://www.montanasnewsstation.com/Global/story.asp?S=8150670&nav=menu227_7 YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A national support group for clergy sex abuse victims says the Roman Catholic bishop of the Yakima Diocese should skip Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States next week. Missing the visit would be penance for continued secrecy surrounding sexual misconduct allegations against priests and diocese employees. The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests sent a letter today to Bishop Carlos Sevilla, saying skipping the pope's visit might deter future recklessness by other church officials. |
