LINCOLN, Neb. - A group frustrated by the Roman Catholic Church's handling of the church's sex abuse scandal is asking that the Lincoln bishop be barred from participating in this month's U.S. visit of Pope Benedict XVI.

The group called the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests says Lincoln Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz (BRUSK--eh-witz) has snubbed efforts to reform clergy abuse.

The pope planned to visit Washington and New York, April 15-20.

It's not clear whether Bruskewitz plans to see the pope. A telephone message left with Bruskewitz's office was not immediately returned.

In 1996, Bruskewitz excommunicated members of another group critical of how the church handled abuse allegations. A Vatican official upheld the action last year.
