Falmouth receives E-Government award

The government watchdog group Common Cause Massachusetts recently presented its E-Government award to the town of Falmouth at a recent ceremony at the State House.

The town was among 89 cities and towns in Massachusetts to receive the award.

The event is part of Common Causes ongoing Massachusetts campaign for open government which periodically reviews the Internet presence of all 351 cities and towns in the state.

We are pleased to be able to honor Falmouth this year, said Pam Wilmot, executive director of Common Cause. Falmouth rose to the challenge and improved its Web site over the past year.

Common Cause launched its Massachusetts Campaign for Open Government in 2006. At that time, only 24 communities met the campaigns standards and posted key governance records, which it defines as: the community governing bodys agenda, the governing bodys minutes, current fiscal year budget information, the municipalitys bylaws, code of ordinances and, if applicable, town meeting warrant and town meeting results or minutes.

Posting these six key records takes only minutes and costs virtually nothing, said Wilmot. Communities like Falmouth that make this information available on the Web are providing an important service to their citizens and we are delighted to be able to honor them.

VOTF meeting is April 6

He also explains that coming forward has helped both he and his family recover.

In addition, David Clohessey, national director of SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Clergy) will discuss both the progress made and the work that needs to be done.

Discussion will follow the showing of the film.
