We revealed that Joseph Creegan was sacked by Bishop Vincent Logan over "irrefutable proof" that he had an affair with a married woman. But last week Creegan sparked a row with the bishop that could go all the way to the Vatican. Creegan was sacked after the spurned woman at the centre of the affair confessed all to Bishop Logan. We also revealed he had stayed overnight at the home of divorcee Anne Ogden, who had gone to him for marriage counselling and even owned a share in her Fife home. Bishop Logan immediately suspended him and apologised to Catholics in Dunkeld diocese for the hurt Creegan had caused. But 66-year-old Creegan - now working in HM Revenue and Customs call centre in Dundee - last week issued a statement claiming he had been the victim of "half truths and lies". He claimed his bishop had acted as judge, jury and executioner in the case. One expert in canon law, who asked not to be named, said: "Canon law allows matters to be dealt with locally in the first instance. This has not taken place. "It would appear the bishop hoped Mgr Creegan would just agree and merge into the background." "Any action taken locally can be appealed to Rome." The Catholic Church's hierarchy in Scotland have no power to intervene in the bitter dispute. Now Bishop Logan is trying to have Creegan removed from the £200,000 flat the diocese bought for him last year on his retirement from St Peter and St Paul's church in Dundee. He lives there rent-free and the diocese owns the property. Parishioners are angry that their collection money was used to furnish the flat.
