Prelates Day in Court Deferred Cath News February 5, 2008 http://www.cathnews.com/news/802/22.php A decision by the High Court in Ireland involving the release of documents pertaining to the treatment of priest accused of sexual abuse, has been postponed. The case has seen two prelates – the former and current Archbishops of Dublin - in a rare legal stoush, Catholic World News reports. Cardinal Desmond Connell had appealed to the High Court to halt release of about 5,000 documents relating to the archdiocesan treatment of accused priests. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin (pictured), had agreed to hand over the documents to the Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation, headed by Judge Yvonne Murphy. But Cardinal Connell argued that he had the legal privilege to withhold documents relating to his term as Archbishop from 1988 to 2004. |
