Brothers Allegedly Molested by Priest File Fraud Lawsuit By Travell Eiland KLAS-TV January 4, 2008 http://lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=7573278 New information is surfacing about a convicted pedophile priest who once served in Las Vegas. Now the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests says 81-year-old John Patrick Feeney may have victims here. Members of SNAP -- the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests were here Thursday from Wisconsin, one of the states where John Patrick Feeney served time as a priest. They're hoping his picture will help uncover if he had any victims during his time in Las Vegas. Feeney is actually serving 15 years in prison right now. In 2004, a jury found him guilty of sexually molesting two young brothers in Wisconsin when he served there back in the 1970's. In a new civil lawsuit filed Wednesday by those same brothers, there are records from the Green Bay Catholic Diocese that show the diocese knew about Feeney's perversion. They even sent him to counseling. But even after that, Feeney was still transferred from parish to parish. Feeney worked here in Las Vegas at Saint Francis de Sales from 1985 to 1986. SNAP officials say the bishop here in Las Vegas has ignored their calls for full disclosure of any complaints against any priests. "These records have been kept secret for decades and people were left at risk by this behavior. We want the bishop to come clean in Las Vegas and release the names of all the predators," said Barbara Blaine, SNAP President. SNAP says John Patrick Feeney also worked as a chaplain in the Clark County Detention Center. He apparently resigned after he was caught bringing contraband into the jail for inmates. Eyewitness News called Metro officials to see if any reports were filed against Feeney, and they were not able to produce any records. The diocese here has not had any comment. In fact, they referred us to a public relations firm who said all they can do is confirm that Feeney did work here. The public relations person did say the bishop will reach out to any victims that come forward in Las Vegas. |
