	Diocese in Compliance with National Charter WMTW December 21, 2007 http://www.wmtw.com/news/14904044/detail.html PORTLAND, Maine — Maine's Catholic diocese said it is in full compliance with national protocols that were set up five years ago to safeguard children from sexual abuse. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland said it has been found in compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, which was adopted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2002 in the wake of the church's priest sexual abuse scandal. The diocese is one of about a dozen across the country that this year participated in an expanded audit, which includes checks on parishes and schools, to examine how well the policies are working. The diocese two years ago was found to not be in compliance with some of the 13 areas included in the charter. Last year the diocese was found to be in full compliance.
