Si pensava che la vicenda avesse avuto epilogo, che la parola fine fosse stata scritta e che il personaggio si accingesse a tornare nell'ombra, a riflettere, magari, a meditare, dopo tanti clamori, nel silenzio... Invece no: ecco don Sante, già parroco di Monterosso, continuamente alla ribalta, dalle televisioni nazionali e locali ai quotidiani e ai rotocalchi (interviste magari ben pagate?), e adesso anche un libro con intimità rivelate senza alcun pudore. Che tristezza. E quali riflessioni suggerisce questo "caso" a chi è nella Chiesa, da peccatore (non occorre che il personaggio in questione ne fondi una di nuova, perché siamo tutti peccatori e facciamo parte di questa Chiesa Cattolica e Apostolica), ma con la piena consapevolezza che umiltà, carità e obbedienza sono ancora delle virtù. Questo prete cerca i riflettori della pubblicità; sembra assillato da un protagonismo sconfinato, da un desiderio di apparire sempre, a tutti i costi, in qualsiasi modo, e parla, parla, parla... Che cosa concludere di fronte a questa che è diventata ormai una sorta di telenovela infinita? Cercando risposte al nostro sconcerto e alle nostre domande pensando a un altro prete che da poco ci ha lasciati: don Oreste Benzi, con la sua veste talare lisa, con quello spolverino sdrucito, con quella corona del rosario in mano e il sorriso sincero, aperto, tipico di chi vive il sacerdozio in pienezza di fede e di amore, un amore totale a Dio, che si manifestava prima nella preghiera, poi nella dedizione agli ultimi, alle sventurate creature di strada alle quali sapeva dare, con un aiuto materiale, una speranza derivante dalla fede. Altro che ribalte mediatiche, disobbedienze al suo vescovo, e superbia luciferina. Ma don Benzi era (è) veramente un uomo di Dio, un santo; quest'altro è soltanto... Sante. One would think the story of the rebel priest would end and that he would withdraw and reflect in silence. On the contrary, here is Rev. Sante, former parish priest of Monterosso, continuously under the limelight, a guest on national and local TV, in the daily newspapers and in the tabloids, releasing interviews (perhaps well-paid) and now with a book where his intimacy is described with no decency. It's very sad. There is no real teaching on the part of the priest who founded the Chiesa Cattolica dei Peccatori Association (Catholic Church of the Sinners.) We are all sinners and we are already part of this Catholic and Apostolic Church, being aware that humility, charity and obedience are still virtues. The priest tries to be visible like commercials. He seems to be possessed by an unlimited ego, by the wish to appear on the stage continuously, and at any cost, and he speaks, speaks, speaks. He is far from the humility showned by Rev. Oreste Benzi, who recently passed away. He dressed in worn-out clothes, with the rosary in his hand, and with a sincere and open smile, living his priesthood in full faith and a total love for God that was shown in his prayers and his dedication to the hapless creatures he found in the streets and to whom he gave help and the hope deriving from his faith. There is no space for shows, disobedience to his bishop and satanic pride. But the Rev. Benzi was a real man of God. He was a saint. This other priest is only...Sante.
