Priest Freed from Jail Awaits Church Decision ABC NOvember 8, 2007 http://abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/08/2085677.htm?section=australia The Anglican church in Brisbane will soon decide on the future of a priest convicted of child sexual abuse. Sixty-three-year-old Robert Sharwood, who remains an ordained minister, was released from prison today after serving 12 months in jail for sexually assaulting a teenage boy while at St Matthew's Anglican Church in the suburb of Sherwood. The church's Professional Standards Board is expected to meet before Christmas to determine if Reverend Sharwood is a fit and proper person to hold holy orders. Archbishop Phillip Aspinall stripped Reverend Sharwood of his license to operate as a priest in 2002 when the allegations were first raised. |
