Mr. Aitken was admitted to the Californiabar in 1989. Mr. Aitken is a partner of the law firm Aitken Aitken & Cohn, in Santa Ana, California, and has practiced with the firm since 1992. Mr. Aitken"s practice is limited to civil litigation. Mr. Aitken represents plaintiffs in major matters involving insurance bad faith, personal injury, aviation, product liability and commercial torts. Darren has successfully litigated and tried numerous civil actions both in the state and federal courts, and he has obtained several seven and eight figure results for his clients. His appellate practice is reflected in published opinions such as Boicourt v. Amex Assurance Co. and Rothman v. Jackson. Mr. Aitken graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 (with high honors) with a double major in economics and philosophy. Mr. Aitken obtained his Juris Doctor Degree in 1989 (with honors) from the University of Southern California, where he was Managing Editor of the Southern California Law Review. He is a Life Member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Delta Phi. Mr. Aitken began his career in 1989 at the Costa Mesa office of Latham & Watkins. While at Latham & Watkins, Mr. Aitken spent several weeks with the Orange County District Attorney's Office prosecuting misdemeanor criminal trials. In 1992, Mr. Aitken was awarded a Pegasus Trust Fellowship (one of only five given in the nation that year), which allowed him to work with practicing English solicitors and barristers in London, England. Mr. Aitken is on the Board of Directors of the Public Law Center, the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County, the Notre Dame Club of Orange County and formerly on the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association board. Mr. Aitken is the founder and former president of the Celtic Bar Association of Orange County, and currently holds the title of treasurer. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of Legion Lex (University of Southern California Law School Alumni Association), and the statewide board of the Consumer Attorneys of California. Mr. Aitken is a former president of the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association, and was on the governing board of that organization for several years. Mr. Aitken co-chaired the Orange County Bar Association travel seminars to Belize (1997 & 1999), Aruba (2000) and Panama (2005). He also co-chaired the Celtic Bar Association travel seminar to Ireland (2002) and Spain (2004). He is a former co-chair of the Orange County Bar Education Committee, and a member of the Education and "Bridging the Gap" Committees. He is currently the chair of the Orange County Bar Association Product Liability Section. He formerly served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution committee of the Orange County Bar Association and the joint Civil Arbitration-Mediation and Case Management Committee for the Orange County Superior Court. Mr. Aitken has given numerous seminars on various trial related topics before the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, the Orange County Barristers, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (Orange County Chapter), the Lorman Education Group, the William P. Gray Inn of Court and the Consumers Attorneys of California. He has been published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, Southern California Law Review, the OCTLA Gavel, the Advocate and the CAOC Forum. Mr. Aitken is AV rated by the national Martindale-Hubbell legal directory. Mr. Aitken is a life-long resident of Orange County, California, and currently resides in San Juan Capistrano, with his wife Laurie, son Gavin and daughters Grace and Kylee.
