ABANO - The rebel priest from Monterosso doesn't give up. His lawyer has delivered the "defensive memory" to the Congregation for the Clergy. The document was attached with 52 pages of probatory documents. German television is also showing interest in the story.

The Congregation for the Clergy yesterday morning was sent the appeal against the removal issues by Bishop Antonio Mattiazzo. Rev. Sante Sguotti and his lawyer, Marco Cardinale, do not give up. The document was handed to Giovanni Carru, undersecretary of the congregation.

The appeal consists of 27 pages plus the 52 additional pages of attachments which are documents containing the evidence proving the facts stated in the appeal.

Even if it was not possible to know the content of their thesis (the documents cannot be made public during the investigation), it seems the rebel priest has good reason to ask for annulment of the decree for his removal.

Rev. Sante's lawyer has listed a large number of violations in that decree, both procedural and substantive, in addition to more than 10 violations of the canon law relating to positive norms, to "natural-divine" rights and the general principles of canonical equity. All of this is mixed with "numerous and incredible abuses of power" and "incontestable arbitrary acts."

It seems the battle between the Monterosso priest against the curia is just starting. It is sure that for the final ruling we must wait perhaps three years, but it seems the rebel priest has good cards to pay. "I wasn't lost in the listing of the facts or in academic discussions, the lawyer said. "I can't reveal my arguments. I mainly dealt with facts related to all those many irregularities which have mostly disconcerted me affter many years of experience in this job. I can't know what the outcome will be. It's sure that if there will be a negative ruling I'll represent the case to the Apostolic Signatura (the Vatican appeals court).

Meanwhile, the light of the national media are continuing to shine on Rev. Sante. After the tabloid interview at Buona Domenica, the former parish priest spoke on the microphones of Radio 101 on Monday, yesterday on those of Radio 24 and today he wil be on the first German channel.
