Sante Sguotti, the priest who has publicly confessed to loving a woman he wants to marry, celebrated Sunday Mass yesterday but did not address the controversy that developed with the Padua diocese over his public declaration or his appeal to the Vatican's Sacred Rota. He has been ordered by his bishop to leave the parish of San Bartolomeo in Monterosso. Archbishop Antonio Mattiazzo wrote a letter to Monterosso residents that said he was close to the people in this time of trial and shares their pain. He added he feels the weight and responsibility of his duty as bishop and he is respecting all rules set by the church's canon law.
