Zimbabwe: British Bishops Express Solidarity with Archbishop Ncube allAfrica September 14, 2007 http://allafrica.com/stories/200709140827.html The Catholic bishops of England and Wales have urged people in Africa and around the world to pray for Archbishop Pius Ncube of Bulawayo, saying his resignation on Tuesday was a cause of "enormous sadness". The bishops praised Archbishop Ncube for his outstanding defence of Zimbabweans in the face of misrule. "No one could have done more to highlight the plight of that country's suffering people and I can only stand in admiration of his courage and in gratitude to him for all that he has achieved," said Bishop Chrispian Hollis, chairman of the Department for International Affairs of Catholic Bishops' Conference of Engalnd and Wales. "It is good to know that, far from being silenced, he will continue to campaign vigorously and courageously for justice for the oppressed people of Zimbabwe." Archbishop Ncube, 60, stepped down following an adultery suit filed at the High Court in Bulawayo in July. He denies the charge. |
