A WOMAN who filed a High Court writ against a former Coventry Cathedral minister and psychotherapist who she alleged abused her, has withdrawn her claim.

The woman, who lives in Leamington, was suing The Rev Dr Barrie Hinksman for more than £50,000.

The writ, filed in July 2003, claimed he abused her during private therapy sessions between 1985 and 1995.

It was for "damages for personal injuries, loss and damage in consequence of the emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse suffered whilst receiving therapy from [Barrie Hinksman]".

A spokesman for the Royal Courts of Justice confirmed the case had now been discontinued. The woman has agreed to pay Dr Hinksman's legal costs.

Dr Hinksman, of Stoneton Crescent, Balsall Common, performed occasional duties as a non-stipendiary minister at Coventry Cathedral until 2001 when he moved out of the diocese to Temple Balsall, near Balsall Common.

He went on to do voluntary work for a Christian centre in Temple Balsall, called the Leveson Centre for the Study of Ageing, Spirituality and Social Policy.

Dr Hinksman, who was ordained in 1965, is a retired psychotherapist who has served as a clergyman in Coventry. He was licensed in 1989.

Dr Hinksman is also an honorary senior associate fellow at the Warwick Institute of Governance and Public Management at Warwick University.
