Don Gelmini in the Catholic News Agency Smiling Eggplant August 9, 2007 http://smilingeggplant.blogspot.com/2007/08/don-gelmini-in-catholic-news-agency.html Italy — The Catholic News Agency, based in Denver, reported the case of Don Gelmini in these words: "Exonerated priests forgives those who accused him of "sexual abuse" Rome, Aug 7, 2007 / 12:04 pm (CNA).- Popular Italian priest Fr. Pierino Gelmini, 82, said this week he forgives the drug addicts who were expelled from his institution and accused him of "sexual abuse" as a way to take revenge and demand money from him. Fr. Gelmini, founder of the "Incontro" community, which has been a successful drug-rehabilitation center, was recently investigated for sexual abuse after accusations were made against him for the first time in his more than fifty years of priestly service." This was copied and pasted from their site. Apart from the need of a good proofreader, they also need to follow the ninth commandment, Exodus 20:16- thou shalt not bear false witness. This has gone beyond spin, it is an outright lie. Don Gelmini has not been cleared of charges. The seriousness of their misrepresentation is aggravated by the fact that the sanctimonious lie is in the headline. No mention either that the good padre has been in prison for financial wrongdoing. On the other hand, today they saw fit to headline Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone's declaration (during his visit to the US) condemning those who profit from the sexual abuse scandals of the RC Church. He added that the Church has suffered greatly from this. Possibly not as much as the victims, if indeed he believes there were victims. Cardinal Bertone is currently Vatican Secretary of State.n |
