Palm City resident Barry Ryan, 58, who has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer, has missed 17 sentencing hearings because of his medical condition since being convicted in October 2004, Suffolk County authorities said Friday. Ryan, who is being treated in a church-run facility in Missouri, had been cleared by doctors to attend a hearing Thursday in New York but cut his own throat to get out of it, said Robert Clifford, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. That's when the judge issued a warrant for his arrest. "We'll await his discharge from the Missouri hospital and he'll be transported to Long Island with the police fugitive squad," Clifford said.
