During a special meeting of the university's board of directors, the decision came to remove the late bishop Gerald O'Keefe's name from the building. The decision stems from the sexual abuse claims during O'Keefe's tenure as the diocese bishop. The board said while it was a difficult decision, it felt removing O'Keefe's name was the right thing to do for Saint Ambrose.
