	Former Pastor of Cordova Church Arrested for Sexual Battery By Pamela Perkins The Commercial Appeal [Memphis TN] July 13, 2007 http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/local/article/0,2845,MCA_25340_5628130,00.html A former pastor of Walnut Grove Baptist Church has been arrested for molesting a former church member. Shelby County sheriff's deputies Thursday evening charged Steven C. Haney, 46, with sexual battery by an authority figure after a 21-year-old man told detectives that Haney abused him between September 2001 and December 2006. Haney, of Cordova, resigned from the church last year after 20 years as its pastor. The victim told investigators that Haney had been his mentor. He told them that he was 15 when Haney approached him. The victim said Haney eventually lured him into performing sex acts with him in the church study and other locations in the Memphis area, including Haney's home and Haney's mother's home in Cordova. Detectives recently began the investigation after the victim told relatives about the alleged sexual encounters. Detectives are investigating whether there are more victims. Haney was in jail on a $25,000 bond until he posted bail today. His arraignment in General Sessions Court is set for Monday.
