Father Jeremiah McGrath, 63, bankrolled convicted sex offender William Adams during a period of three months in which he repeatedly raped a 12-year-old girl. McGrath, of Rosslea, County Fermanagh, was convicted by a Liverpool Crown Court jury of one charge of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence. He was cleared of one similar charge and the jury was discharged from reaching a verdict on facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and on a count of sexual touching after they failed to reach a verdict after almost 11 hours' deliberation. On Friday McGrath appeared in court gain to hear the prosecution announce there will not be a retrial on the remaining charges. They will be ordered to lie on the file when he is sentenced on June 14. McGrath, who had denied the charges, will be sentenced with Adams, 40, formerly of Meadow Hey, Bootle, who has pleaded guilty to raping the child.
