(AP) -- A judge revoked bail yesterday for a priest accused of stealing up to $1 million from two Louisa County churches. The Rev. Rodney L. Rodis violated terms of the $25,000 secured bond last month when he traveled to New Mexico to visit a child who had been living with him before his legal troubles. Father Rodis will be held at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County. Father Rodis, 51, faces 13 felony embezzlement charges that he diverted more than $600,000 given to St. Jude Catholic Church in Mineral and Immaculate Conception in Bumpass from 1995 until he retired last year. He pleaded not guilty in March, and his trial was set for Oct. 1. While pastor of the churches, Father Rodis lived with a woman he referred to as his wife and with three children in Spotsylvania County, neighbors said. He has denied being married to the woman. She and the children moved to New Mexico after a grand jury indicted Father Rodis in January. The case against Father Rodis arose in November when officials with the Catholic Diocese of Richmond found a Pennsylvania donor's check was deposited in a bank account they knew nothing about. Authorities said Father Rodis opened an account in a church's name at a bank in Fredericksburg, deposited donations in the account and then diverted them for his use. Father Rodis was indicted in January on one count of felony embezzlement. The grand jury added 12 additional counts in March. Father Rodis was ordained a priest in the Philippines in 1986 and has been living in the United States since 1991.
