	Jailed Priest Says Church Has Abandoned Him Associated Press, carried in KESQ May 20, 2007 http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=6542726&nav=9qrx Las Vegas - A jailed priest accused of sexually assaulting a church worker says the Catholic Diocese has abandoned him in his hour of need. Father George Chaanine (shah-NEEN') said in letters the diocese did not send anyone to visit him since he was jailed in February on one million dollars in bail. But friends say someone from the church did finally visit him on Friday. Police say the 53-year-old priest struck Michaelina Bellamy over the head with a bottle multiple times and groped her in January. He is facing multiple counts, including attempted murder with a deadly weapon and sexual assault. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
