Angelika Trial Told Priest Knew Where Student's Body Was Hidden The Herald [Scotland] May 2, 2007 http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/news/display.var.1368786.0.0.php The Angelika Kluk murder trial yesterday heard a cry for justice from a devout Christian who claimed a parish priest knew the student's body was hidden under the floor of his church. At the High Court in Edinburgh, Russian student Rebecca Dordi was questioned at length about what Father Gerry Nugent said about the trap door in St Patrick's Church in Anderston, Glasgow, on the night Ms Kluk's body was found under it. The 30-year-old Russian student was called as a witness by Donald Findlay, QC, senior counsel for Peter Tobin, who denies raping and murdering Ms Kluk and concealing her body. She told Mr Findlay that Fr Nugent said to a gathering of parishioners at a house in Knightswood, Glasgow, on Friday, September 29, that Ms Kluk had been found under a hatch near the confessional. Mr Findlay: "Are you able to say that on Friday night, Fr Nugent knew where the body was?" Miss Dordi replied: "He certainly did." "Absolutely?" asked Mr Findlay. "Absolutely," she said. Miss Dordi added: "But it did not seem strange at all. I thought somebody from the police had phoned him up and had told him." Mr Findlay: "Now, you are a person who takes religion seriously and you have sworn by almighty God. Do you take this seriously?" The Russian student replied: "Very, very seriously. I owe Angelika to help justice is done." Miss Dordi told the trial that on that Friday she was taken to the Knightswood home of sisters Margaret and Rita Bonner. Fr Nugent was there, glass in hand, but was not drunk, Miss Dordi told the trial. During the long conversation, she added, the priest said: They have found Angelika's body." He also said it had been found, "in a trap door or a hatch at the confession box". |
