Boston (MarketWatch) — As part of a previously-announced cost-cutting plan, the Boston Globe said on Thursday it was buying out the contracts of 24 of its editorial staff, including Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Eileen McNamara and investigative reporter Stephen Kurkjian, who spearheaded coverage of the Catholic priest sexual abuse scandal. The Globe said the buyouts are intended to avoid layoffs amid declining ad revenue. Also departing the Globe are restaurant critic Alison Arnett, religion writer Charles Radin and outdoor sports writer Tony Chamberlain. The Globe is owned by the New York Times Co.
