Pastor Denies Slapping Woman to Get Sex By Richard Fletcher ic Cheshire [United Kingdom] March 16, 2007 http://iccheshireonline.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100regionalnews/tm_headline=pastor-den ies-slapping-woman-to-get-sex&method=full&objectid=18764427&siteid=50020-name_page.html A Pastor who allegedly wanted sex with a 'petrified' woman is said to have repeatedly slapped her to try to make her submit. Chester Crown Court was told yesterday that Yves Aristide Nahangame, 31, allegedly intended to rape the 26-year-old after she returned to his house in Ermine Road, Hoole. Nahangame's housemate Thomas Henshaw said he heard a 'violent' argument and called police when he heard slapping and crying. Simon Parry, prosecuting, said: 'She was absolutely terrified and thought she was going to be raped. 'He turned violent and started to hit her face and continued to make demands for sex. 'Mr Henshaw could hear her say 'no, I've had a good night as it is - no I don't want to'. The prosecution ask - what is it that she did not want to do?' Nahangame, studying international development and theology at the University of Chester, went to a bar on October 20 last year where he met the woman. The pair went to her house before going to his shared accommodation. But while in his bedroom, Nahangame allegedly demanded sex. Nahangame admitted slapping her but said he did it because she demanded cannabis from him before she would have sex, took his cannabis and refused to give it back. He said: 'It looked like she wanted me to go to her place and have sex or go to my place. She asked to come with me to finish what we started. 'Today I tell the truth because they put my bible in front of me.' Nahangame, from Burundi, was president of Interfaith for Peace and vice president of the Lutheran Church of which he was a pastor in his native country. His wife and baby were killed and he came to the UK through Christian Aid in 2002. Nahangame pleaded not guilty to assault with the intention to commit rape. The case continues. |
