Church Seeks Input on Policy By Jane Sims London Free Press [Canada] March 2, 2007 http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/CityandRegion/2007/03/02/3685506-sun.html The Roman Catholic Diocese of London plans to release a draft sexual abuse policy next week. The announcement was made on the diocese website. The policy came under review following the shocking sex abuse case involving Rev. Charles Sylvestre. Bishop Ronald Fabbro promised the policy would be reviewed after the priest pleaded guilty last summer to 47 charges of indecent assault. Sylvestre, 84, died in prison in January, just three months into his three-year sentence. He abused and molested girls during four decades while he served in parishes across southern Ontario, including Windsor, London, Sarnia, Chatham and Pain Court. The policy will set the rules surrounding the conduct of priests who work with children and vulnerable people. |
