Spotsylvania, Va. — The lawyer for a Catholic priest charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from two small Louisa County churches said his client may plead guilty next month.

Outside the courtroom after a brief hearing on Monday, attorney Jack Maus said the Rev. Rodney Lee Rodis may plead that way at his March 12 arraignment. Rodis is accused of embezzling funds from St. Jude and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches.

Rodis, 50, had been living with a woman and three children in Spotsylvania County. Maus said his client was not married to the woman. Maus did refer to them as Rodis' family, but he did not elaborate. The woman and children have moved to New Mexico.

A priest accused of embezzlement and living a double life appears in court.

Rodis is free on $10,000 bond. He is a native of the Philippines and had to surrender his passport to get bond.
