Palm Springs — Roman Catholic clergy will continue a four-day convention today as they discuss ways to deal with issues facing the church.

Members of a group concerned about victims of sexual abuse will "have a presence" outside the convention hotel, saying the gathering inside should focus more on the abuse issue.

The 34th annual National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy starts each day with a prayer service, and then works to build "dialogue" around contemporary "pastoral needs and realities," according to organizers.

A number of bishops and other church leaders are scheduled to speak at the convention at the Hotel Zoso in downtown Palm Springs.

While the gathering continues inside the hotel, members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, say they'll remain outside and attempt to make their views known.

The gathering is being hosted by the Diocese of San Bernardino.
