  Sunshine, Departed Take Writers Guild Awards

Road trip comedy 'Little Miss Sunshine' and Martin Scorsese's 'The Departed' were winners at Sunday's Writers Guild of America Awards.

William Monahan won the Adapted Screenplay prize for 'The Departed', a saga about rival moles in the police and a crime gang, which is based on the Hong Kong thriller 'Infernal Affairs'.

Little Miss Sunshine - WGA winner

Michael Arndt, with his debut script, took the award for Original Screenplay for 'Little Miss Sunshine'.

Both writers are nominated in their respective categories for the Academy Awards on 25 February and both films are also competing for the Best Picture Oscar.

The Documentary Screenplay Award went to writer-director Amy Berg for 'Deliver Us From Evil', a film - shot partially in Ireland - that tells the story of a Catholic priest's sexual abuse of children and efforts by church officials to shield the priest.

'Deliver Us From Evil' is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary category.

The Writers Guild television awards included 'The Sopranos' for Best Drama Series while 'The Office' took Best Comedy Series.
