Archdiocese: $100k Missing, Priest Resigns

Omaha, Neb. — An Omaha priest may have stolen more than $100,000 from the Archdiocese of Omaha, according to a news release from the Archdiocese.

The Rev. Stephen J. Gutgsell was investigated by the Archdiocese internally. An audit showed that $100,000 is missing, the news release said. The matter was handed over to Omaha police on Friday morning.

Gutgsell has resigned from St. Patrick Parish and is on administrative leave, the release said. He is cooperating with investigators.

St. Patrick's parishioners took their concerns to the chancery after a financial review.
