Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of the first story written about a priest sexually abusing a child.

Ever since, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests say 850 stories regarding clergy sexual abuse have been told.

To mark that milestone, more than 50 vigils were held nationwide, including one in Albany outside Holy Cross Church. SNAP's regional co-director says his mission is to make sure victims of clergy sexual abuse are not forgotten.

"We want to make sure that the predators are exposed and that the catholic church takes responsibility for the clergy sexual abuse scandal..more importantly and most importantly that we want to protect children..that's why we're here...we want to make sure this never, ever happens again," said Mark Lyman.

Lyman was arrested for violating an order of protection for protesters outside of Holy Cross last April. Those charges were later dropped. SNAP was founded in 1989 and is the oldest and largest group for clergy abuse victims.
