Priest Due in Court on Church Theft Charges Authorities: Rev. Police say the Rev. Mark Sorvillo diverted almost $200,000 from the treasury of St. Margaret Mary Church, at 2324 W. Chase Ave. in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, where he was pastor. The theft happened over a period of eight years, authorities allege. Sorvillo was forced out of the church last February, and turned himself in to police on October when he found out he would be arrested.
Prosecutors said he used the money to fund an extravagant lifestyle, including vacations, trips to Neiman Marcus, and liquor.
